Google Finance Concept

Introduction

Before I plunge into any of the design solutions, I started my task by understanding the problem that I am dealing with. In this task, I started evaluating the Google Finance Portal and redesign it by comprehending the critical issues with the user-centric design approach. I first started exploring and knowing about the web portal's strengths and weaknesses. Later I studied into its reviews and evaluated it with its primary competitors- Microsoft: MSN money and Yahoo finance in contrast to the holistic experience.

I began my task by conducted interviews and whiteboarding session to gain foundational knowledge about their expectations and issues with ten selected professional stock traders who actively viewing the stock market data and business news to make trade decisions. After spending a decent amount of time with the users, I got a clear direction to create personas, which helped me understand the user's expectations and pain points better while designing solutions.

I have spent some time creating a list of question for the users to extract expansive responses and get the insights for my design solutions, which includes open-ended questions with few follow-up questions.

List of Interview questions

People who are aware of the portal

I would tell them to explore the tool to record the patterns, behaviors and probe them if they are stuck making a decision or confused in finishing a task, without giving any solution.

Whiteboarding

In this session, we discussed and fixed the problem first and continued creating the concept sketches individually. Some candidates were intimidated by sketching. For them, I have informed them to draw boxes and write a few words and express their ideas without worrying about the detailing. After the sketches, we have gathered together to critique and select the best among them all. The selected concepts are displayed below.

I have gathered a substantial amount of data from the ideation session and converted all the select sketches to the hi-fidelity with its respective flow by arriving at the best with empathy.

Once all the wireframes got finalised, I have started creating the user flow and Visual designs.
